Black Barn Kitchen... They Are Cooking Up A Summer Surprise - And We Got The Inside Scoop!!!

We are absolutely thrilled to have The Black Barn Kitchen walking distance from home here in Jacksonville, Oregon. From the moment they opened their doors in December at the historic School House, they've had a steady stream of happy customers—and it's no surprise why. In a small town like ours, word spreads fast if something’s good… or not. And let me tell you, this place is so, so good on so many levels.
The quality of the food is top-notch—mostly made from scratch, including their organic, house-made sourdough bread. They source locally whenever possible, including meats from Cherry Street, and they use rice bran oil instead of seed oils, which really sets them apart. They even use produce from their own farm, and there's an organic garden taking shape right on the property. It’s the kind of place you feel great about supporting—and even better about eating at.
From day one, everything has run flawlessly. The team is warm and welcoming, the service is consistently excellent, and the food is always spot on. I’ve never had a bad meal. Their smash burgers are total perfection, and their specials keep things exciting with bold, creative flavors. One of my all-time favorites? The American Wagyu Tri-Tip and Smoked Cajun Prawns over creamy parmesan polenta, topped with chimichurri and crispy fried shallots. Unreal.
The golden fried Brussels sprouts tossed with garlic parmesan lemon butter are another must-order, and don’t even get me started on the skillet cookie—especially with cherry ice cream. Huge hit at our table!
The magic behind it all comes from the powerhouse team of Jess Ellis, Nathan Trivers, and Nikki Villa. Nathan and wife Nikki bring a ton of experience from their restaurants in California and work with Black Barn Farm out in the Applegate (yes, they even had a beloved food truck before this!). Their shared vision and dedication shine through in every dish and every detail.
And the good news? There’s more to come! This spring, they’ll be opening a brand-new deli in the same location. We don’t know all the details yet, but if it’s anything like the restaurant, it’s going to be incredible. Plus, rumor has it there’s something fun brewing for the patio this summer—maybe margaritas and wood-fired pizza? Whatever it ends up being, I know it’ll be delicious and full of that Black Barn flair we all love.
